Herbie
![]() Herbie is the name given to an L87 pearl white 1963 Volkswagen Type 1 Deluxe Sunroof with a yellow-on-black California license plate OFP 857 which has appeared in a number of Disney films since 1968. Also known as "The Love Bug", Herbie is a car with a mind of its own and performance far exceeding that of a standard Volkswagen - and many other cars as well - to make it a serious contender in car racing. Herbie is capable of driving hiself, but we never get a hint about his origins. Herbie is painted in a pearl white colour with red, white and blue racing stripes, and sports a big racing-style number "53" on the front bonnet and doors. The first Herbie film, The Love Bug, was inspired by the book Car, Boy, Girl written by Gordon Buford in 1961. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
