Hector Babenco

Héctor Eduardo Babenco (born February 7, 1946 in Buenos Aires) is an Argentine-born Brazilian-naturalised film director, screenwriter, producer and actor.

He has directed such films as Carandiru, Corazón Iluminado, At Play in the Fields of the Lord, Ironweed, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Pixote, and O Rei da Noite. Babenco also acted in the 2000 film Before Night Falls.

Babenco was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Director in 1986 for Kiss of the Spider Woman. Three of Babenco's films have been in the running for the Palm D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
