Hectare
A hectare (symbol ha) is a metric unit of area. It is not an SI unit, but it is accepted (although discouraged) for use with the SI. The SI unit of area is the square metre.
Explanation
The hectare is common in domains such as agriculture, forestry, and town planning in most countries, and in references to those domains in everyday speech. It is rarely used in the United States. In a few other countries that have only partially or recently adopted the metric system (e.g. the United Kingdom) it is only used in technical contexts.
