The band was plagued by tragedies. One of the original band members, Jesse Whitten, was stabbed to death before their first recording session. An almost fatal car crash caused band member Mario Mantese to leave the group, and another car crash left Johnnie Wilder paralysed from the neck down. Although Wilder continued to work with the band and sing in the recording studio, he was unable to go on tour.
