Hazleton, Pennsylvania
Hazleton is a city located in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 23,329. In 1897, the Lattimer Massacre occurred near Hazleton. The city is nicknamed "The Mountain City" because of its elevation of 1700 feet above sea level, much higher than other cities in the area (for example, the city of Wilkes-Barre, about 25 miles away, is about 1000 feet lower in elevation).
