Hartford, Illinois
Hartford is a village located in Madison County, Illinois, near the mouth of the Missouri River. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,545. Lewis and Clark spent the winter of 1803-1804 here, near what has been designated the Lewis and Clark State Historic Site. A small museum has replicas of the expedition's keelboat, as well as of the barracks the men slept in.
