~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Situated on top of a hill, Harefield is just inside the north-west 'corner' of the M25 motorway. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Harefield is famous for its hospital, where pioneering heart surgery techniques were developed. Nearby is Mount Vernon Hospital, known for its plastic surgery and oncology departments amongst others. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Harefield is also famous for its Anzac War Graves from WW1 - The Great War, located in the graveyard of St. Mary the Virgin, on Church Hill. Harefield Hospital was used to treat soldiers during the First World War, many of whom were Anzacs, which accounts for the large number of Anzac graves in the churchyard.
