Halych
![]() Halych () is a historic town in Western Ukraine on the Dniester River. The town gave its name to the historic province and kingdom of Galicia, of which it was the capital until the early 14th century, when the seat of local princes was moved to Lviv. Today Halych is a small town and a seat of Halych Raion of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, located 26 km to the north of Ivano-Frankivsk. Its population is estimated at 4,600. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The Russian transliteration should be distinguished from Galich, Russia. In Polish the name is rendered as Halicz; in Yiddish - as ?????? (Helitsh/Heylitsh); in Latin - as Galic.
