Half slip

A half slip is a woman's underskirt extending from the waist downward to near the edge of the outer skirt to help it hang smoothly and to prevent chafing of the skin from coarse fabrics such as wool.

It is usually made of a smooth and slippery fabric such as satin or nylon and may be decorated with lace at the edges and is worn over more intimate undergarments. A slip may also be used for modesty under a translucent outer garment.
