Hainault

Hainault is a suburban development in the London Borough of Redbridge in East London. It is 12.2 miles (19.6 km) north east of Charing Cross and on the boundary with the Epping Forest district of Essex.

The name Hainault is derived from the fact that the area was part of Hainault Forest, in turn part of the Royal Forest of Essex. King Edward III's wife was Philippa of Hainault, and that part of the Forest now bears her name.

The area is in the Green Belt, and the suburb of Hainault is thus bordered on the east by what is now Hainault Forest Country Park (see below) and by open land to the north and south. Grange Hill suburb completes the boundary to the west.
