~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Gold first sold stories to the pulp magazines in the 1930s. After serving in World War II, he returned to writing and made his way into editing. He became editor of Galaxy in the early 1950's and made it into one of the premiere science fiction magazines of that decade. Gold suffered from increasing agoraphobia (originating from war trauma) and, as a result, he left Galaxy for good in 1961. He lived the rest of his life more or less in seclusion and died in 1996. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
