Gunpei Yokoi


 

Gunpei Yokoi, also seen as Gumpei Yokoi (横井 軍平 Yokoi Gunpei, September 10, 1941 - October 4, 1997) was one of the most important figures in the history of the video game company Nintendo. He was the producer of the Metroid and Kid Icarus video game franchises, as well as a driving force behind the development of the Game Boy and other pivotal Nintendo technologies.

Koto

In 1996, Yokoi left Nintendo to form a new company, Koto. There he developed the WonderSwan, another handheld console. The first game released for the WonderSwan was named "Gunpey" in his honor.
