Gundsø

Gunds? is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Roskilde county on the island of Zealand (Sj?lland) in east Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 64 km?, and has a total population of 15,749 (2005). Its mayor is Evan Lynnerup, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.

The site of its municipal council is the town of Roskilde, which is in neighboring Roskilde municipality. Towns in the municipality include Gunds?lille, Gunds?magle, Jyllinge (the municipality's largest town), ?strup Holme, and ?gerup.

Neighboring municipalities with land connection are H?je-Taastrup to the southeast, Led?je-Sm?rum to the east, Stenl?se, ?lstykke, and Frederikssund to the north, and R?dby to the west, and Roskilde to the south. Neighboring municipalities to the west, Skibby, Bramsn?s, and Lejre, are separated from Gunds? by the waters of Roskilde Fjord.

The municipality was created in 1970 due to a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that combined a number of existing parishes:

• Kirkerup Parish
• ?gerup Parish

By January 1, 2007 Gunds? municipality will cease to exist due to Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be combined with existing Rams? and Roskilde municipalities to form the new Roskilde municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 212 km? and a total population of 79,441 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Sj?lland ("Zealand Region").
