Gropegate
The entire collection of events surrounding the allegations of Arnold Schwarzenegger groping women on movie sets is referred to as Gropegate. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ In the days preceding the 2003 California gubernatorial recall election, it was widely reported by the media that Schwarzenegger, who was leading in the polls (and subsequently won the election) groped scores of women on movie sets during his film acting career. This speculation was never substantiated, and, with the landslide victory of Schwarzenegger, the media frenzy surrounding the gropings dissipated. The scandal led to Schwarzenegger's being referred to as "Herr Gr?penf?hrer" in the Doonesbury cartoon strip; he is also portrayed as only a giant grasping hand. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
