Gregory Maguire
Gregory Maguire is an American author. He is the author of the novels ', Son of a Witch, Lost, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, and Mirror, Mirror for adults. In addition, he is also the author of many other books geared toward children. Maguire often uses existing literature as a basis for his writing, as he did in composing Wicked - the backstory to L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. His novel Wicked was turned into a hit Broadway musical also entitled Wicked.

He received his Ph.D. in English and American Literature from Tufts University. He has three adopted children and is married to painter Andy Newman. Maguire is also a founder and codirector of Children's Literature New England, Inc. which was established in 1987 and is also a contributor to Am I Blue?: Coming Out From the Silence, a collection of short stories for gay and lesbian teenagers.
