~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ He is originally from Rye, New York. He described his early life as one of uniqueness in an August 2004 issue of Entertainment Weekly. He stated: "We were Italians in a town of WASPs." and "Economically, we weren't doing as well as 90% of the community." ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Berlanti studied writing at Northwestern University. He was a writer and producer on Dawson's Creek and its short-lived spin-off Young Americans, as well as writer on Everwood. Berlanti wrote and directed the film Broken Hearts Club about young gay friends in West Hollywood. Berlanti himself is openly gay. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
