Green Zone
The Green Zone is a 10 km² (4 mile²) area in central Baghdad that is the main base for coalition officials in Iraq. Its official name under the Iraq interim government is the International Zone. The contrasting Red Zone of danger refers to anything outside the Green Zone, in practical terms the whole of Iraq. Both terms originated as military designations.
