Green Mansions


 

Green Mansions: A Romance of the Tropical Forest is an exotic romance about a traveller to the Guyana jungle of Southeastern Venezuela, as told by William Henry Hudson. The traveller befriends local tribes and meets up with a girl in the jungle after being bitten by a snake. The girl, Rima, is the last surviving member of a tribe different from the locals. She is at home in the jungle and treats the animals as her friends.

The natives fearfully view her as an enemy. The rest of the story involves her trying to find her origin and thereby comes face to face with the truth that she is the last of her tribe.

The book was made into a movie in 1959, starring Audrey Hepburn, Anthony Perkins, Lee J. Cobb, Sessue Hayakawa & Henry Silva.
