Gotha (town)
Gotha is a town in Germany. It is located at {{coor dm|50|55|N|10|43|E|region:DE_type:city(46,000)}}, in the Bundesland of Thuringia (German Thüringen). It is the capital of the District of Gotha. From 1949 to 1990 it belonged to the German Democratic Republic.

Its current population is approximately 46,000. The oldest record of the city dates to the year 775. The Arnoldischule school (named after the first German life insurance salesman, Ernst-Wilhelm Arnoldi) has made a partnership with Gastonia, North Carolina as a part of the Sister Cities program.

In 1875 the SDAP and the ADAV merged to form the SAPD, what is today the SPD at the Socialist Unity Conference in Gotha: their manifesto was the Gotha programme and it called for "universal, equal, direct suffrage".
