Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region
Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAR), also known as Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast (GBAO) is a mountainous province (region) of Tajikistan. It makes up 40% of the land area of the country.
Demographics
The population is mainly Tajik, with small Kyrgyz and Russian minorities. The largest city in GBAR is Khorog, population 22,000; the second largest is Murghab, with about 4,000 residents.
