The book of Françoise Sagan "Aimez-vous Brahms", a love between an older woman (Paula - Ingrid Bergman) and a young man (Philip - Anthony Perkins), was a sensation in 1959.

Goodbye Again (1968) was an ill-fated attempt by ITV to re-create the magic of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore's very successful BBC comedy series "Not Only... But Also"(began 1965). The series suffered from the same downfalls as various other BBC-to-ITV shows of the time, namely that the larger budget and slicker production often detracted from, rather than added to, the show. Cook and Moore made only 4 hour-long shows, which featured US "name" guests, and was interspersed with rock acts, such as Ike and Tina Turner.

Of note to comedy fans should be the fact that one innovation of the show was the total abandonment of all punchlines, with the sketches flowing into one another in a stream-of-consciousness, surreal method, which predated Monty Python's Flying Circus by 18 months. Also of note to Python fans should be the "Senile Delinquency" sketch and the recurring high-voiced old woman, who should be referred to as the 'pre-pepperpots'. Making things even more interesting was the fact that one pre-Python John Cleese guest-starred on the show. On the whole, however, the American-slick presentation, the overlong scripts, and the poor direction added to the "we're only in it for the money" overall feel of the show, resulting in a show that was considered disappointing overall.
