The region contains a substantial concentration of urban areas, suburban areas, and industry. It also contains three very large shopping malls (The Mall of New Hampshire in Manchester, the Rockingham Mall in Salem, and the Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua) as well as countless smaller retail districts that prosper due to New Hampshire's lack of a general sales tax. The region also contains a very large number of commuters who live in New Hampshire but work to the south in Massachusetts.
