Goblins are grotesque faeries of about dwarf height. They can also appear as animals. They are said to count the dead among their companions. They can weave nightmares out of gossamer and insert them into the ear of a sleeping human. Goblins borrow horses from stables and ride them all night. This explained why horses were tired in the morning. They steal human women and children and hide them away underground. Goblin women steal human babies, replacing them with ugly goblin babies or changelings. In other myth, goblins have humanlike skin, which cannot tan, only burn. They are characterized by spindly, yet wiry arms, and average around 5 foot 4. They are very much more slender than humans, and a 5 foot 4 goblin could weigh 100 to 110 pounds. They have a somewhat bestial appearance, and their brow is fully covered with thick hair. Yellowed, crooked teeth are also a trait. They have some traits of old men, which can include shortsightedness, but they are wiser than humans. Goblin skin is prone to blotching. Goblins, or devil men, require milk and meat to survive. They are naturally evil mannered, and have a penchant to eat humans. Goblins are mortal creatures, though in some legends of them there are no females. They force human women to mate with them, producing fully goblin children. They sometimes leave these children in other human homes and take the human child to eat. This is a rare thing, and is usually a form of punishment.
