Glitter (Mariah Carey album)
Glitter is a 2001 soundtrack album released by Mariah Carey on the Virgin Records label. It has only sold about four million worldwide (a relative flop for Carey) and was also panned by many critics, though it received three stars from Rolling Stone magazine. It was released shortly before Carey made her film debut, Glitter, which was also a big flop. Carey has cited the September 11th Attacks as part of the reason the album flopped. In an interview, she claimed: "I released it around 9/11. I became a punching bag. I was so successful that they tore me down because my album was at No. 2 instead of No. 1. The media was laughing at me and attacked me." The poor reaction toward Carey's film debut was also blamed for the poor sales of the album. Nevertheless, it was certified platinum in America on October 16 2001.
