~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Sent to Earth by the Nebulans, Gigan was paired with King Ghidorah and attacked Tokyo. They were challenged by Godzilla and Anguirus, and after a hard, long fight, the two space monsters were driven off, and retreated back into space. A year later, Gigan was sent by the Nebulans to assist the people of Seatopia in their assault on humanity by aiding Megalon in a battle against Godzilla and Jet Jaguar. Gigan abandoned Megalon when the fight turned against them and flew back to space. Gigan is sometimes considered Godzilla's most violent opponent and has a large fan following despite the generally perceived low-quality of the first two films in which he appeared. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ That same year, Gigan made an appearance on Toho's television series, Ry?sei Ningen Z?n (an Ultraman/Henshin-style series). Gigan was pummelled by Godzilla once again, then battled the giant superhero, Zone Fighter. Gigan finally met his match in Zone Fighter, and was destroyed by his explosive Monster Missiles. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Gigan returned in the film ' as a mummified cyborg monster, having been slain 12,000 years ago by Mothra. Brought back to life by the Xilians as part of their global invasion, Gigan travelled to the South Pole to destroy the newly-awakened Godzilla. Gigan was able to ensnare Godzilla with grappling hooks from his scythes, but had his head blown off by Godzilla's atomic ray. Later, when Mothra arrived to assist Godzilla against Monster X, a repaired and upgraded Gigan arrived to battle his ancient foe. This Gigan had its scythes replaced with dual-chainsaws and had the ability to fire razor-discs from his chest. Using his chainsaw hands to slice off part of Mothra's wing, Gigan had apparently slain his foe, and double-teamed with Monster X against Godzilla. When Mothra attacked again, Gigan fired his discs at her, and when they missed, he fired off a blast of his eye-beam, setting Mothra ablaze and apparently killing her. As Gigan struck a victory pose, though, his razor discs came shooting back at him, slicing his head off. This time, however, Gigan was still alive despite the loss of his head. Unfortunately, he was unable to do much of anything, since a flaming Mothra dove down, body-slamming Gigan and destroying both of them in a fiery blast. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
