Gerry McNamara
Gerry McNamara (born August 28, 1983 in Scranton, Pennsylvania) is a starting guard on the current Syracuse University men's Basketball team. Now a senior, McNamara, along with teammate Carmelo Anthony, lead his Orange (formerly "Orangemen") to their first ever National Championship in 2003. In the title game versus the Kansas Jayhawks, McNamara hit an amazing 6 three pointers in the first half, giving his team a hefty 18 point cushion during the first half. In the second half, Syracuse managed to cling to this lead, eventually winning the game by a mere three points. Later, in 2004, he scored a startling 43 points in the first round game of the NCAA championship.

McNamara is known for his excellent shooting--especially from behing the 3-point arc--and his fiery toughness. Usually hounded by the opposing team's defense, McNamara often struggles to get open, and he has been known to occasionally take an ill-advised shot as a result. These shots, however, sometimes go in! McNamara has incredible heart and dedication; he's the sort of player a team can always count on--the sort of player you always want to have the ball in the final seconds of a close game.
