Germania Superior was a province of the Roman Empire. Important cities were Besançon (Besontio), Strasbourg (Argentorate), Wiesbaden (Aquae Mattiacae) and Germania Superior's capital Mainz (Moguntiacum). The adjective Superior (that lies above) come from the fact that it lies on the river Rhine, upstream of Germania Inferior.
