:"It seems that the U.S, Navy has a propensity every generation or so to produce from within its ranks a maverick who will shake the naval establishment to its eyeteeth in his efforts to induce progressive changes in the quality of the Navy's fighting ships and their personnel. Admiral Hyman Rickover is only the latest in that mold; almost a century before him there came on the scene an equally formidable personality by the name of George Wallace Melville. Like Admiral Rickover, Admiral Melville was not one to mince words or to spare the targets of his wrath and indignation." (Source: Mechanical Engineering, July 1980)
