George Patton IV
George Smith Patton IV (name later changed to George Smith Patton) (December 24, 1923 in Boston, Massachusetts - June 27, 2004 in South Hamilton, Massachusetts) was a major general in the United States Army and the son of World War II General George Patton. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ A graduate of West Point, Patton served in Korea as a company commander and in Vietnam commanding the 11th Armored Cavalry as a colonel during three tours of duty there before retiring from the Army in 1980. His decorations included the Distinguished Service Cross with one oak leaf cluster, the Silver Star with one oak leaf cluster, the Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Purple Heart. He died from a form of Parkinson's disease. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ He is survived by his wife, the former Joanne Holbrook, and their five children, Margaret Georgina Patton, George S. Patton V, Robert H. Patton, Helen Patton-Plusczyk, and Benjamin Wilson Patton; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
