George Hamilton (commentator)

George Hamilton is an Irish sports commentator for RTE (Radio Telifís Éireann), the Irish radio and television broadcasting company. Hamilton is a household name in Ireland, where his voice and refined commentary style of soccer and GAA are familiar to all. Born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Hamilton originally trained as a cellist before beginning work for the BBC, and subsequently RTE. As well as commentary work, Hamilton also hosted a weekly quiz show on RTE, Know Your Sport, alongside fellow commentator Jimmy Magee. Hamilton's cultured approach to sports commentary has won him admirers, and although his remarks are sometimes scoffed at, he has been the voice of Irish sport for almost twenty years.
