George Gordon McCrae
George Gordon McCrae was born in 1833 in Scotland, and emigrated to Melbourne in 1841. Here, he was a Deputy Registrar-General, and also a prominent figure in literary circles. His son, Hugh McCrae produced a volume of memoirs about his father, and his father's association with such literary figures as Henry Kendall, Adam Lindsay Gordon, and Marcus Clarke.

McCrae wrote novels, stories, poetry, and travel sketches, and illustrated books. His son, Hugh, was also a poet.
