Throughout the series George tries his best to guide young Cory, Shawn, and their friends as they encounter problems in their lives on their road to adulthood. An extremely kind and serene man, he first appears on the show as their school teacher, also as their neighbor; principal, and eventually toward the later years, their college professor.

Also later on in the show George Feeny becomes the mentor of Eric Matthews, and "Feenay" as Eric refers to him when he comes of age (A reference to South Park's Eric Cartman's accent), assists him in overcoming many challenges he faces in college, preparing him for the road ahead.
