George Carlin

George Dennis Carlin (born May 12, 1937 in New York City) is a Grammy winning Irish American ("I used to be Irish Catholic, now I'm an American. Y'know: you grow.") stand-up comedian, actor, and author, noted especially for his irreverent attitude and his observations on language and religion. He is considered by many to be a worthy successor to the late Lenny Bruce.

• For reasons that are not entirely clear, many emailed lists os intended witty observations on certain topics are often attributed to Carlin. To date, none of these writings have been the work of George Carlin, and many express sentiments and ideas that are the opposite of the sort of ideas and themes present in Carlins work. He has made numerous announcements on his website concerning these forwarded articles, and denies having any connection to any of them (as well as disparaging most of them on a variety of grounds.) Why Carlin seems to be dispraportionately credited with such material is something of a mystery.
