Genovese crime family
The Genovese Family is one of the "Five Families" that controlled certain Mafia activities in New York City. The faction got its name from Vito Genovese, who ran it in the 1950s, although it had existed before that time.

Recent Years
During the 1970s, the Genovese Family was aligned with the Gambino Family, but the two Families moved apart in the 1980s, primarily because the then-boss of the Genovese, Vincent Gigante, despised the flamboyant and swaggering Gambino boss, John Gotti.
