Originating in Orlando, Florida the band was founded by leader singer Gen while attending pre-med. The Genitorturers made their debut and progressed in the 90's Florida "Hardcore" music scene along side bands such as Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids that would also become a success in later years. "What emerged would be a band that would go beyond shaking up the house that 'Mickey' built and extend to paving the way and breaking ground for performance based music artists thereafter worldwide".

In 1993, having heard of the Genitorturers' shows, IRS owner Miles Copeland (who had discovered and nurtured careers for bands such as REM, GoGo's, The Bangles and Concrete Blond) sent his assistant Nick Turner (former drummer for Lords of the New Church) to see the band perform. The quality of the performance, as well as their style ( which included a musical style containing fused elements of hardcore punk, metal and industrial electronic), led them to a record contract. Soon after thet would record 120 Days of Genitorture.
