Geelong is a port city of 200,067 people (2003 census) located on Corio Bay. The city is located 75 kilometres south-west of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia. Geelong is covered by the municipality of The City of Greater Geelong, and is Victoria's largest regional city.

Media

Melbourne newspapers, "The Age" and "The Herald Sun" serve Geelong (along with the rest of Victoria). Residents have their own independent local newspapers, the Geelong Advertiser, the Geelong Independent, and the Geelong News, as well as smaller newspapers serving the Bellarine Peninsula area. Local radio stations are 3GL (Ethnic service),K-Rock, The Pulse (Community Radio service) and Bay FM.

Transmitters for K-Rock, The Pulse & Bay FM are located at a shared transmitter site on Mt Bellarine on the Bellarine Peninsula outside of Drysdale a short drive from Geelong CBD. Most Melbourne stations can be clearly heard in Geelong. Geelong does not have its' own television broadcasting facilities and relies on broadcasts from Melbourne for television reception. A set of small analogue UHF TV in-fill repeaters located at the Highton water basin service a television black spot in the suburbs of Highton & Newtown..
