Gaston (Beauty and the Beast)

Gaston is a fictional character and main villain in Disney's Beauty and the Beast. The local superstar and hunter in a small French town, Gaston has fallen head over muscular heels for Belle, whom he says is going to be his wife, whether she likes it or not. A male chauvinist and sexist, he says that Belle and he will have six or seven "strapping boys" like himself, and calls her his "little wife" among other sexist comments. At the end of the movie, he falls down to an appearant death by the roof of Beast's castle (though the only thing seen and heard was him screaming while falling). He later appears again in the House of Mouse television series, as a patron of the nightclub. He also had a story in the Beauty and the Beast comic books.

He is often seen as a take on the "classic" hero: he is handsome, good looking and loved by all (especially women), but is vain and thinks only of himself (and never of the woman he wants to marry), compared to the real hero of the movie who is a physically ugly monster, but is shy, reclusive, and sensitive.

In the musical, there are two songs that are centered around Gaston: "Me" (sung by Gaston when he is in Belle's cottage with her), and "Gaston" (sung by the people in the tavern). The first song (http://www.lyricsondemand.com/b/beautyandthebeastlyrics/melyrics.html) has Gaston explaining to Belle that she will be his property, that they will raise only sons, and that she'd keep house "with pride".
