Early Life

Nasser was born in Alexandria, the son of a postal official. He spent part of his childhood living with a revolutionary uncle in Cairo. Serving with a major's commission, he fought in the 1948 war against Israel; for several months at the war's end he was trapped in the so called "Faluja pocket", together with his men. When a cease-fire was reached, he was allowed to return to Egypt.

His elder daughter; Hoda Abd El Nasser, became a researcher in politics. For 30 years after her father died, she has been gathering information and documents about her father and the revolution. The substantial efforts of Dr. Hoda were translated by (BA) on January 2004 when BA announced its new project: Digitizing the Modern History of Egypt. As part of that, BA digitized all collections made by Dr. Hoda, indexed them and published them on the web at: www.nasser.org, where you can browse and search metadata and full text as well using exact matching and morphological searching. For multimedia documents, such as documentary movies, photos, and songs, you can only search the metadata. The collection of speeches is in both audible and readable format. This project serves as a reliable source for finding documents of different types, and includes many rare documents.
