Gaj Singh, Maharaja of Jodhpur

Titled His Highness, Gaj Sing (b. 13th January 1948), is The Maharaja of Jodhpur, India. He succeded to the title on the death of his father the Maharaja Hanwant Singh in 1952. He was only 4 years old at the time and although appointed Maharaja he was to stay with his mother, Krishna Kumari until at the age of 8 he was sent first to a prep school at Cothill and then to Eton College.

After Eton he went on to Christ Church, Oxford where he obtained a Batchelor's Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics.

In 1970 he returned to Jodhpur to take up his duties as Maharaja. In 1971 the constitution of India was amended and the Maharaja and other prince's like him were no longer provided with public money (privy purse) and their privileges removed.

Later the Maharaja was to serve as the Indian High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago as well as a term in the Upper House (Rajya Sabha) of Parliament in New Delhi.

In 2002 he celebrated his 50th year as Maharaja (Golden Jubilee). He is married to Her Highness The Maharani Hemlata Rajye and has two children. A daughter, The Baiji Lal Sahiba Shivranjani Rajye (b. 1974) and a son The Yuvraj of Jodhpur, Shivraj Singh (b. 1975).
