It was known as TechTV Canada until May 28, 2004, at which point it was renamed as a result of the merger between TechTV and G4 in the United States. On February 15, 2005, less than a year after the merger, the United States G4techTV was renamed back to G4. Although most links from G4techTV Canada's website redirect to G4, the co-ownership and licensing with the CRTC as a technology-related network prevents the network's name in Canada from being changed.

Although G4techTV Canada airs most G4 shows, its schedule largely differs from its United States counterpart. Due to CRTC restrictions, Anime Unleashed is not aired in Canada.
