Gørlev

G?rlev municipality is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in West Zealand County on the west coast of the island of Zealand (Sj?lland) in Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 92,06 km?, and has a total population of 6,556 (2005). Its mayor is J?rgen Arnam-Olsen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of G?rlev. Other towns in the municipality are Svallerup, Bjerge, Kirke Helsinge, Mullerup, Dr?sselbjerg og Reers?.

Neighbouring municipalities are H?ng to the east, Hvideb?k to the north, and Slagelse to the south. To the west are Musholm Bay (Musholm Bugt), the Great Belt (Storeb?lt)? the strait which separates Zealand from the island of Funen), and Jammerland Bay (Jammerland Bugt). The municipality of Kerteminde on the island of Funen is G?rlev's municipal neighbour to the west, albeit separated by the waters of the Great Belt.

By January 1, 2007 G?rlev municipality will cease to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Bjergsted, Hvideb?k, H?ng, and Kalundborg municipalities to form the new Kalundborg municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 598 km? and a total population of 48,697 (2005).
