Fun House

Fun House is the second album by protopunk band The Stooges. It was recorded in May 1970 and released in August of the same year. It did not sell very well; however, like its predecessor, The Stooges (1969), it had an underground impact. A song, "Down On The Street", with Doors-style organ overdubbed on it by producer Don Gallucci, was pulled from the album and made into a single. It was released in the same month the album was, and fared slightly better than it in the charts.

The tracks were recorded live in the studio with little or no overdubs, in roughly the same order as on the record. The Stooges intended that "Loose" open the album, but Elektra thought "Down On The Street" would be the stronger opener.

The popularity of the album grew in 1985 after Henry Rollins wrote about the album as one of his favorites in Spin. Jack White of The White Stripes has often referred to Fun House as the best album ever.

In 2001 Rhino Records released a limited edition box set, ', featuring every take of every song from every day of the recording sessions, plus the single versions of "Down On The Street" and "1970". On August 16, 2005, the album was reissued by Elektra and Rhino as a deluxe two-CD set featuring a newly remastered version of the album on disc one and a variety of outakes (essentially highlights from the Complete Fun House Sessions box set). Jack White contributed liner notes to the reissue.
