Fruit fly can refer to

• any animal of the family Tephritidae (large fruit flies) or Drosophilidae (small fruit flies or vinegar flies)
• the species Drosophila melanogaster, an important model organism in modern biology; this species is also sometimes simply called Drosophila.
• a heterosexual woman who consistently associates with homosexual males, also known as a "fag hag" or "flame dame."
• Annoying little flies about 7mm in length that fly around and reproduce almost constantly. They are almost impossible to catch due to their size and speed. The best solution to ridding fruit flies is to get rid of all rotten fruit and get yourself some fly paper.
