Friedrich Ebert (GDR)
Friedrich "Fritz" Ebert (1894–1979) was the son of Friedrich Ebert, the 9th Chancellor of Germany and the first President of Weimar Republic. Unlike his father, who was a social-democrat and an avid anti-communist, Fritz became a member of the German Communist Party. He was acting Chairman of the Council of State in the German Democratic Republic and thus head of state of the GDR for a brief period in 1973.
