Free kick (American football)
A free kick in American football occurs after an offensive player in possession of the ball is tackled in his own endzone. The team that had possession must kick the ball to the opposing team. The kick itself is similar to a punt, but it occurs from the same spot as a kickoff, so the team that caused the safety usually gets very good field position.
