Baron's asbestos litigation tactics were called into question when a memo produced by his firm, which coached plaintiffs on what to say when being deposed, was unintentionally disclosed. http://www.nationalreview.com/ponnuru/ponnuru200407150806.asphttp://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/cpquery/T?&report=sr118&dbname=cp108 In response, Baron argued that the memo was not unethical, that other lawyers do the same thing all the time, and that his firm didn't use the memo except in a few cases; the law firm resisted attempts at further investigation. A Texas state bar grievance committee dismissed ethics charges filed against him by Judge John McClellan Marshall.http://www.manhattan-institute.org/html/cjm_34.htm When the alternative progressive newspaper Dallas Observer investigated the charges, Baron attempted to intimidate reporters, including subpoenaing one reporter to discover her confidential sources.http://www.dallasobserver.com/Issues/1998-08-13/news/columns.html Baron & Budd successfully targeted Judge Marshall for defeat in the 2000 election.http://www.dallasobserver.com/Issues/2001-03-29/news/feature.html
