Levitt's examinations in the book expose many truths the general population does not consider. He examines Roe v. Wade as a cause for the sudden drop in crime a generation after the decision. He examines Japanese Sumo wrestler's win/lose records to find some things that are too coincidental to NOT be considered cheating in this sport known for its emphasis on honor. He examines a crack dealing gang's financial records to explain why most drug dealers still live with their mothers. He compares parent profiles with parent practices, revealing that obsessive parenting has little correlation to school test scores. Levitt has a way to seamlessly blend economics into any seemingly unrelated field.
