Fraser's Hill derives its name from James Louis Fraser, a British colonial adventurer and fortune hunter. Many colorful stories exist about his life, including rumors that he managed an opium and gambling den frequented by miners in the hills of Pahang. However, in the early 1900's, Fraser vanished without a trace. In 1917, a couple of clergymen rediscovered Fraser's Hill, and gather support from the colonial authorities to turn it into a hill stationto get away from the unbearable heat of the lowlands. One of Malaysia's earliest Golf courses was constructed on Fraser's Hill in 1925. Cool and invigorating throughout the year, Fraser's Hill remains popular as a site for company retreats and weekends.
