Frank Bello
Frank Bello replaced Dan Lilker on bass guitar in Anthrax, a thrash metal band, on the Spreading the Disease album. He was warmly received by the band's fans, who enjoyed his energetic stage presence and inventive bass style. He played fast, but with feeling that is generally lacking in heavy metal music. Bello played using a pick, hitting double and triple-picked lines with ease. He held the bottom up for the band, which used high-pitched guitar squeals and a high-pitched singing style from vocalist Joey Belladonna. Bello was known to have a cocaine problem, which led to numerous trips to rehab. After one such trip, he decided to leave the band to pursue jazz fusion music in 1996. But he couldn't get rid of the metal bug and was soon back in the band the next year thrashing away at the band's old hits. After leaving Anthrax permanently in the early 2004 Frank joined forces with Helmet - another NYC-based band.
