Francisca Rojas

Francisca Rojas was probably the first criminal found guilty through fingerprints.

On June 29, 1892, 27 year old Rojas murdered her two sons (aged 6 and 4) in Necochea, Buenos Aires Province, in Argentina, and tried to simulate an attack by cutting her own throat. Investigation led only to one suspect, a neighbour called Pedro Ramón Velázquez, but police officers later found a bloody fingerprint in the crime scene which, with Juan Vucetich's intervention, was easily found to belong to Francisca.
